Carl Zeiss on “Depth of Field and Bokeh”
Dr. H. H. Nasse of Zeiss has just published a new white paper “Depth of Field and Bokeh”, subtitled “Nine rounded diaphragm blades guarantee images with exceptional bokeh”, which is to say the article goes on to explain that aperture blades are only part of the behavior.
It’s a long read, but a fascinating article , well worth your time. DAP readers can get my take on depth of field along with examples in my article Focus and Practical Depth of Field.
Also alluded to is something I’ve been noting over and over again with ultra wide angle lenses: the poor tolerances in both lenses and cameras today, a subject I investigated in detail a year ago with four copies of the Zeiss ZF 21mm f/2.8 Distagon on the Nikon D3x, in Alignment Woes (in Guide to Zeiss).
