Weight of Zeiss 35/1.4 Distagon for Canon and Nikon
I weighed the Zeiss ZF.2 35mm f/1.4 Distagon for Nikon and Zeiss ZE 35mm f/1.4 Distagon for Canon and here’s what these metal and glass lenses weigh. See my Guide to Zeiss ZF / ZE Lenses for a review of both.
First weight figure is with both the front and rear lens caps and metal lens hood. The 2nd weight figure is the lens only. Weighed on lab-grade scale.
Zeiss ZF.2 35/1.4: 892g, 824g
Zeiss ZE 35/1.4: 916g, 845g
Canon 35/1.4: 642g, 583g
Nikon 35/1.4G: 663g, 601g
I don’t normally consider weight an issue for wide angle lenses, but the Zeiss 35/1.4 Distagon is heavy enough that some users will find it bothersome if the lens is to be carried for any period of time. Yet even hikers who are landscape shooters having to carry their gear for miles will appreciate that its color correction for lateral chromatic aberration is easily the best I’ve seen in any 35mm lens.
Getting one
I’ve purchased the Zeiss ZE 35mm f/1.4 Distagon for Canon, and will also be buying the Zeiss ZF.2 35mm f/1.4 Distagon for Nikon. B&H Photo had the Zeiss ZE 35/1.4 Distagon in stock until late yesterday, but appears to have sold out of its initial supply. Check my handy links at right for all the Zeiss lenses.
