Nikon D800 Autofocus Accuracy
Just added to my Nikon D800 review are two new pages: ad-hoc examples with AF-S single-shot autofocus and an autofocus consistency assessment using AF-S focus with AF Fine Tune.
Update: I’ve added another AF-S test using a flat target, which shows that the D800 can perform quite differently on 3D targets vs flat ones. Results also suggest that the left-side focusing points are less accurate than the right-side focusing points, suggesting an AF sensor alignment issue.
I have more autofocus research coming, including one series in which I use the Nikon D3x as a control camera for comparison.
Please note that autofocus accuracy with fast f/1.4 lenses is not comparable to that with f/2.8 lenses, even if both are shot at f/2.8.
See my Nikon gear page for D800 availability status.
