Fuji X-Pro1: RAW Headroom vs JPEG
This discussion actually apply to any camera brand.
To my review of the Fuji X-Pro1, I have added a new page showing how the use of RAW (Fujifilm “RAF”) adds considerable headroom (quality) to images, and why shooting JPEG can be a disaster for image quality.
With JPEG, the loss of highlight detail is “baked in”. With RAW (RAF), there is a lot of headroom for “overexposure”. The perfect exposure for RAW blows out in JPEG, yet the RAW exposure fully utilizes the sensor.
