Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM: Aperture Series with Focus Shift Analysis

Ancient Bristlecone Pine, White Mountains
Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM @ f5.6

Canon shooters who don’t own the 40mm f/2.8 STM are missing a super small and ultra lightweight option.

At about $149, the 40/2.8 STM is a no-brainer buying decision, and is perfect for a light-carrying walk-around Canon setup. And it’s a better and much cheaper lens than Nikon’s discontinued 45mm f/2.8P (which I also own).

The 40/2.8 STM a personal favorite for the way it “draws” at f/2.8 in particular. Now if Canon would just make a body which is also a favorite. Maybe in late 2013.

Added to DAP in my review of the Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM is an f/2.8 - f/16 aperture series with generous crops along with my usual analysis of the performance of the 40mm f/2.8 STM. This particular scene turned out to be an excellent example for showing some uncommon behavior that I’ve grown more used to seeing with zoom lenses as with the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G.
