Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera
B&H Photo has the about $995 Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera available for preorder. The about $3995 Blackmagic Design Blackmagic Production Camera 4K is also available for preorder.
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera looks like a hot little number. But as far as I can tell, no image stabilization, so for my bouncy mountain bike rides, probably would not work.
The feature list reads like these guys really think about what they’re doing:
- 13-stop dynamic range.
- Super 16 format at 12.48mm x 7.02mm on the sensor.
- 1080p ProRes 422 (HQ) files and lossless CinemaDNG RAW recording.
- Frame rates of 23.98p, 24p, 25p, 29.97p, 30p.
- Record to to fast SDXC cards.
- Focus button turns on peaking.
- Iris button automatically adjusts the lens iris settings so no pixel is clipped in film mode. Scene average auto exposure in video mode.
- Micro Four Thirds lens mount— instant access to hundreds of lens choices.
- Ultra portable (which is perhaps a downside for handheld use!), 355 grams.
- High resolution 3.5" display at 800 X 600.
- Integrated stereo microphones.
- Professional connectors for professional usage.
- Built in grip and appealing design, magnesium body.
Looks slick as heck. And has one of my favorites: a form of ETTR which the still camera guys just cannot figure out.

I just wish it had the Olympus style 5-axis image stabilization so I could take it on my rough bike rides.
