Shootout: Leica M Typ 240 / M240 + 50/2 APO ASPH vs Sigma DP2 Merrill
Ultra premium $14,000 system vs an $899 Sigma DP2 Merrill point and shoot? Even more ridiculous than comparing to a Nikon D7100!
Well, let’s have some serious fun.

Lloyd that was one outstanding article. Well done. It is one of the many reasons why I keep visiting your site everyday in that you don't care about what the brand is and you just present the facts.
Out of interest, Can you compare M240 with a Elmarit-M 28mm with DP Merrill 1. DPM1 will probably beat M240/28f/2.8 except perhaps in distortion.
And also I would love to see how the M240 sensor (with its new oval micro lenses) handle the acute incoming ray angles from its own native lenses.
DIGLLOYD: The DP1 Merrill lens is the weakest of the three DP Merrill cameras (still competitive with the best DSLR lenses), but then again the Leica 28/2.8 Elmarit-M ASPH (and 28/2 Summicron-M ASPH) both have field curvature, so they need stopping down to f/5.6 for best results (or even f/8 depending on subject matter).
See the D800E vs Leica M Monochrom comparisons—the MM has resolution at least as good as the Leica M Typ 240.
I plan on evaluating wide angles, including the Leica 21/3.4 SEM (widest I have from Leica), but I hope to get the Zeiss ZM 15/2.8 Distagon, 18/4 Distagon and 21/2.8 Distagon in time to evaluate also.
