Leica M Typ 240: Night-time Photography

Writing this at 11,600' elevation high in the mountains, with a cell signal.

The Leica M Typ 240 surely is a step forward for night-time photography, with 60 second exposures possible without fuss (regrettably it seems there is no way to go longer without a cable release for bulb mode).

I’ll have review coverage of many things Leica upon my return, including a discussion of dual aperture photography at night.

Daryl M writes with disappointing news:

The Leica M longest exposure is 60 seconds, period, ISO dependent, as ISO increases max time decreases.

On Auto exposure, continuous drive, and with cable release locked (mechanical cable) I am able to take sequential 60 sec exposure with alt 60 sec noise reduction.....I will have to see if noise reduction can be turned off. I can not turn off the screen countdown of nr maybe you have a way to do this.

DIGLLOYD: while time-consuming, dark frame noise subtraction (“long exposure noise reduction” on most cameras) is worthwhile with no downside aside from the time-consuming doubling of time required.

That a full-frame camera is limited to 60 second exposures apparently arbitrarily, while the APS-C Ricoh GR at 1/10 the price makes lovely razor sharp 5 minute exposures or even longer in T mode.
