Zeiss 25mm f/2 Distagon (Backlit Bristlecone)
Readers know that I like wide aperture landscapes under some shooting conditions.
The Zeiss 25mm f/2 Distagon offers high contrast and sharpness wide open at f/2 (with precise focus!), affording opportunities for creative shots even in solstice sunlight.
I am also sometimes asked about the 25/2 Distagon for landscape shooting, the context being “is it perfect enough”, or so to speak. The reality is that there exist no wide angle lenses from any vendor that perform at a level I would like to see, while also having an f/1.4 or f/2 aperture; compromises abound. I do hope that Zeiss delivers a ~28mm f/1.4 ultra high performance lens akin to the 55/1.4 Distagon, perhaps in 2014, which would falsify that “reality” statement.
Backlit bristlecone aperture series from f/2 - f/16 with Zeiss 25mm f/2 Distagon.
With the usual Retina-grade images and with particularly generously-sized crops.
