What’s on the Back Burner
Interest in the Sony A7R is high, as it well deserves though its shutter vibration is a true Achille’s heel, which sows real concern for anyone looking to use alternative lenses. Hence my current intensity aimed at the A7R (and to a lesser extent, how it compares to its sibling, the 24MP A7).
But interest in the Fujifilm X-E2 + Fujifilm XF 23mm f/1.4 and/or Olympus E-M1 has only a faint heartbeat. As in it can fog a mirror, but not much more.
But I did shoot a lot of stuff with the E-M1 and 12-40mm zoom (and the SHG lenses) on my November trip and it will surface in time.
As for Fujifilm X, the lens lineup has 2 or 3 really good optics, but if I can shoot a 24-megapixel full-frame Sony A7, why would I invest in a 16MP APS-C camera with oddball sensor artifacts? Or 16MP Micro Four Thirds? A system investment means a camera and two or three lenses, and those cost too—I want longer-term value, because it’s the lenses I care about most—cameras depreciate like stale bread. Even if Sony cameras are not as camera-like as Fujifilm, a full-frame camera system has time and quality on its side, and the A7R is highly adaptable to other lenses.
