Back on October 31, I reported on how much I liked the Five Ten Camp Four GTX hiking shoes.
So much so that as I headed to the mountains in early November, I acquired the Five Ten Camp Four GTX Mid @AMAZON, a hiking boot version, but with the same aggressive and sticky tread. The 'Mid' version provides another inch or more of ankle-area coverage, which means being able to walk through water up to around 3 inches deep (with care) and still keep dry feet.
Five Ten 'Camp Four GTX' Super Grippy Waterproof Hiking Shoe / Boot
The GTX version indicates the GoreTex liner variant (waterproof).
Below, I am standing in ice water. I did so for several minutes after having already traversed some shallow water for quite some distance, cracking through the ice at times. Back at my car, I removed the boots to verify no ingress of water: the inside liner was bone dry and my socks were dry also. However, they are not insulated, so standing in ice water does make feet cold!

Your blog post sure hit home, fractured my leg 5 weeks ago wearing Vibram soles slipping on dusty steep rocks, those f*cking shoes are in the garbage. Why aren't you wearing a mid top shoe from Camp Four?
DIGLLOYD: ouch.
I have since acquired the Camp Four GTX Mid hiking boot @AMAZON. For the dry summer and autumn, I don’t need the ankle support of a boot, plus boots are bulkier and heavier and warmer and more of an on/off hassle. But for spring conditions and late fall and whenever there is water and snow to deal with, the boot is better, and so I acquired the 'Mid' version as well, so now I have both to cover the seasonal challenges
