Bryce Canyon Area
I shot some aperture series this morning and various, then proceeded towards Bryce Canyon National Park. For some parks, the best way to see it is via bicycle, so I rode in 18 miles from the valley below (a test of its own see my April 22 notes on concussion). Note well that the national forest areas near Bryce and Zion are very nice in their own right, and very peaceful, and the camping is everywhere and free. National Parks get very crowded and thus unpleasant, though April is an excellent time to visit.
There is a fantastic bike trail from down in the valley; it starts where the national forest starts and runs about 18 miles (one way) all the way to the popular Bryce Canyon overlooks. Climbing is a gentle grade and only about 1400 vertical feet.
Below, I held on tight because nothing but a very long rope would have let me retrieve my Moots.
Below, one need not enter the national park for scenic views of another kind in the national forest areas, which surrounds a few small private land inholdings.
Below, the national forest between Bryce Canyon and Cedar Breaks is lovely, and offers many miles of excellent roads for mountain biking or that just-right camping spot. There are huge heaps of lava amid the native sedimentary rocks shown here.
Below, Bryce Canyon from one of the lookout areas. The trail seen near center can be hiked or ridden on horseback.
Below, I don’t like the left side, but I was not about to climb over the fence in my cycling shoes.
Below, I always like the look of shots made with the Zeiss Loxia 25mm f/2.4—crisp contrast and sharp detail. I deem the Zeiss Loxia 25mm f/2.4 a must-have for Sony shooters unless manual focus is a show-stopper.
Below, camping (for free) in the national forest near Bryce Canyon National Park. This campsite is better than anything in the park and comes nuisance free (noise from other people and their stuff). While I probably could have made it here without 4WD with some special driving efforts, I don’t need the stress of maybe getting stuck—4WD is a godsend.
