Sony A1 Animal Eye AF with the Sony FE 100mm f/2.8 STF OSS
It’s dubious for the Sony A1 to show and record f/2.8 as f/5.6, which is technically incorrect. While it is a brightness of T/5.6, it’s still f/2.8. See f-stop and T-stop.
Anyway the results with the Sony FE 100mm f/2.8 STF OSS spectacular and the Sony A1 is delivering a near perfect hit rate with the Sony 100/2.8 STF. I’ll show a selection to that effect soon. It sure takes a lot of time to shoot and evaluate image of animals and birds and then (sometimes) to make one select out of 4 or 5 similar images.
I reiterate that the Sony A1 is delivering the best monochrome conversions from a color camera that I have ever seen. At least according to my brain wiring’s neural network and 15 years of shooting digital. And while the Leica M10 Monochrom surely has lower noise, it cannot deliver the focus accuracy or the lens quality or the B&W renderings I am getting. A big WOW in favor to the Sony A1.
Not to mention that the first image below was shot at ISO 12800. It’s noisy but the visual impact remains astonishingly good.
More and more I am trending to buy the Sony A1. I do have to test it on landscape a nd against the Sony A7R IV, but my eyes keep telling me that something better than I’ve seen ever before in Sony mirrorless is happening.

The Sony A1 is nailing-it on animal Eye AF with the Sony FE 100mm f/2.8 STF OSS. It feels like the apodization actually makes Eye AF work better, but that might be wrong, I don’t know yet.
