Aperture Series @ 24mm: DeChambeau Barn (Leica SL)

This near-to-far distance scene with a large flat field portion (the barn) evaluates sharpness across the field and near to far.

This is one scene where the Leica SL seems to have focused fairly closely to ideally, though the softness in the center at f/2.8 makes one wonder if that is peak performance or not, that is, peak performance is a reasonabloe expectation wide open in the center and yet f/4 visibly improves the results. It looks like focus may be just a bit far forward, that idea being supported by observing that sharpness extends well forward of the barn but not to the trees immediately right of the barn. That this is likely is reinforced by the fact that at 28mm, a clear mis-focus is seen, by about 20 feet / 6 meters in front of the barn. In the field, Leica SL autofocus proved extremely unreliable.
