Leica S2

Usability: Image Review

Image review (zooming, panning, scrolling between images at the same zoom level) is an exercise in frustration and wasted time.

The controls are atrociously bad for this purpose; no Nikon or Canon user will like this design. It’s infuriating, because it’s a chore to use.

With the S2, you will learn to despise the words “mode” and “modal”.

Perhaps if you’re really good at video games, all the modal button presses will work for you, but I felt that I had to expend a gross amount of effort to do the basics. It never becomes easy or convenient; there is no pleasure or efficiency to the design.

Leica could have used a multi-direction control as with Canon and Nikon, or something, anything else, but stuck with primitive controls similar to those found on medium format backs. To be fair, most other medium format backs are equally retarded in this way, but so what? The S2 is supposed to be a DSLR.
