Pentax 645Z: 50 vs 36 Megapixels (25mm / 21mm, Matched Size)

An image is the sum total of many factors. Medium format has certain pluses, such as generally higher per-pixel quality from larger light-gathering photosites, but sharpness per pixel is hugely dependent on the lens used (and shot discipline).

Here we study a simply question: can the Pentax 645Z + Pentax 25mm f/4 visibly outperform the Sony A7R with the Zeiss 21mm f/2.8 Distagon.

This is a reasonable question to ask given the about $13500 cost and about $4400 cost for the smaller format (body + lens for both plus adapter for the Zeiss). Not to mention the size and weight differential, lens versatility, speed of operation and EVF of the smaller format.
