Examples: Nikon D70–IR

Comments based on conversion by irdigital.net (apparently no longer in business). Internal filtration with (alleged) 800nm hardened plastic filter.

The Nikon D70 is capable of outstanding infrared images. Pixel-for-pixel, its quality is excellent. However, since it has only half the pixels of the EOS 5D, its overall resolution is lower, and it cannot be used at high ISO values as well as the 5D.

My particular D70-IR focuses perfectly at all focal lengths with the Nikon 18-200 f/3.5-5.6 G ED-IF AF-S VR DX. This is relatively rare, one of very few combinatiosn I have used that focus perfectly. Note that there is no assurance that conversion of a Nikon D70 will produce the same desirable combination as my particular camera, since the thickness and type of glass or plastic used can vary. However, there is at least one anecdotal report from a reader that the combination does in fact perform as the mine does.
