Notes on the Lens Assessments

There is wide variation in lens performance in terms of focus accuracy, hot spot problems and sharpness. Many lens are troublesome to use because of strong hot spot issues. Others have strong backfocus which requires mitigation, such as using a B+W 091 or 092 filter through which focusing can be done and/or using LCD zoom to achieve accurate focusing.

Take the time to understand how your lenses perform under varying conditions on your particular camera—unlike color photography, one can’t simply assume that all infrared cameras will focus exactly the same way.

Please note that lenses with significant backfocus or hot spots are likely to show “Minimal” for experience; I prefer to work with lenses that perform without the hassles.
