Focusing for Infrared

Unlike the Canon 5D, use of filtration does not improve focus on the Nikon D70 (or Nikon D200).

Manual focus must be used for manual-focus lenses—

Manual focus adjustment used the infrared adjustment mark (if present), or a best guess if not.

LCD zoom “focus” (not used for these tests) means taking more than one frame, then using the camera’s LCD to zoom in to maximum magnification, then making a focus adjustment. This process is repeated until the best result is obtained. It’s not always obvious what the best result is, which means one might adjust the focus and find that the prior focus was better—in which case one must try to achieve the previous focus a 2nd time, a sometimes frustrating task with the overly-sensitive focusing rings on many autofocus lenses.
