Digital Noise with Nikon D70

The Nikon D70 performs very similarly to the Canon 5D at ISO 200 and 400. I have almost never used the Nikon D70 for low-light shooting, using it almost exclusively for daylight work, but based on the performance at ISO 200 and 400, would not hesitate to use it at ISO 800, and perhaps ISO 1600.

Nikon D70 — ISO 200

The image below was made at ISO 200. Noise is visible in all channels, with a moderately blotchy blue channel. The D70 also has a tendency for some streaking (pattern) noise, but in practice is is rarely an issue as it occurs in very dark areas. As with the EOS 5D, the blue channel is the noisiest, but it often is the most appealing as well.
