Raw-file Conversion & Digital Photo Professional

This section discusses conversion of Canon RAW files (“CR2”) using Digital Photo Professional (DPP). Conversion consists of verifying that the settings are the usual ones, then opening the image in Photoshop.

With older versions of DPP, do not rely on the preview that DPP provides except for casual inspection, even with Operating Mode set to Quality.

Unlike Nikon Capture, which offers previews that match the final result exactly, older versions of DPP uses an approximation preview which often looks awful for infrared images. This occurs for color images in some cases as well, so avoid assessing the fine points of image quality in DPP. Later versions might improve matters.
