Optimal Autofocus
This article is part of a series. See Introduction to Camera Features to start.
Autofocus accuracy has gotten really good, but falls flat in the context of focus shift and field curvature.
Requirements:
- Deadly accurate focus mode with pinpoint AF relying on image analysis including near/far focus peaking.
- Deals with secondary color intelligently.
- Focus wide open or one stop or two stops down or specified aperture, but compensate for focus shift at shooting aperture vs focusing aperture.
- Must take into position within frame of focus position (e.g., compensation in center differs for edge of frame or similar).
- Can be disabled.
- Must not get in the way of using manual focus!
- Works with AF initiated via shutter or with AF-ON.
- Option to focus first, then press button to see adjustment (two step compensation).
- Incorporates focus lock and recompose support.
